Report on Differentiated Supervision

     The objectives in the Differentiated Supervivion area are to prepare an executive report on the concept of differentiated supervision, and to note the successes and challenges school districts have had with this model.

     I will design a survey to be sent to the principals of the other Catholic schools in the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese to obtain information about any use of, success with, or challenges they have had with differentiated supervision.
     I will also obtain information from public school administrators on their supervision process.  A comparision will be made.
     I will prepare an executive report on this subject.

      I have sent a survey to ten principals in the public schools, and ten principals in the private schools. As of the update of this web page, 14 have been returned.

     These areas of Differentiated Supervision were include in a check list:

  • teacher serves as mentor
  • teacher serves as cooperating teacher
  • video taping
  • teacher presents workshops
  • peer observation
  • structured interview
  • teacher shadowing
  • teacher exchange
  • utilization of innovative technology
  • portfolio review
  • program work
  • other


Principals were asked to write successes and challenges they have had with these models.

This project will be completed by the end of October.
