     The objective is to synthesize 10 legal cases.

     I will write up ten cases using Dr. Doverspike's case study format.  Three of these cases will be ones pertaining to public vrs. private school issues.

     Public Education cases:

  • Cordero vrs. Pennsylvania Department of Education -- Special education system of Pennsylvania challenged.
  • State of California vrs. Proposition 187 -- Educating illegal aliens challenged.
  • McLean vrs. Arkansas Board of Education -- Public schools to teach equally creation-science and evolution-science.
  • Shirley Pittman, et al. vrs, Chicago Board of Education -- School council's position on principal tenure challenged.
  • Joseph Hearne, et al. vrs. Board of Education of the City of Chicago, et al. -- Challenged job termination under new legislation.
  • Michael A Gaudiello, Jr. vrs. Delaware County Intermediate Unit, et al. -- Challenging mainstreaming of handicapped child.
  • Patricia Sue Battle vrs. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania -- Handicapped students' parents sued challenging procedural safeguards.
  • Cedar Rapids Community School District vrs. Garrett F. Appellee -- Nursing services to handicapped student.
  • Irving Independent School District vrs. Tatro, et ux. -- Nursing services to handicapped student.
  • Bill Honig, California Superintendent of Public Instruction vrs. John Doe and Jack Smith -- Handicapped students sued for readdmittance to school.

     Private School cases:
 

  • Voucher Opponents vrs. Cleveland Voucher Program -- Voucher system "one-subject Bill" challenged.
  • Teacher's Union vrs. Private-school-choice -- Voucher system for religious schools challenged.
  • Chandler vrs. State of Alabama and DeKalb County School District -- Religious expression by students challenged.
  • Catalina Foothills School District vrs. Parents of Deaf Student -- Deaf student attending Catholic high school wanted reimbursement for interpreter.
  • Chittenden School District vrs. Vermont State Education Department -- Challenged taxes paying for students to attend a Catholic high school where no public school district exists.
  • Vermont's Educational Telecommunications Access Program vrs. Madison based Freedom from Religion Foundation -- Internet subsidies in private schools challenged.
  • Department of Education, State of Hawaii vrs. Katherine D. -- Handicapped student seeking reimbursement for tuition in private school.
  • School Committee of the Town of Burlington Massachusetts, et al. vrs. Department of Education of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts -- Private school placement, IEP challenged.
