| The objectives of the School Into the Community
Event are to plan a service learning project that takes the school into
the community, and to arrange publicity.
With the help of parents, many of whom are doctors and nurses, I will hold a community blood screening day. Older students will help with the publicity and organization for this event. I hope to hold this event in November. A blood drive is set up tentatively, for December 12, 1999. I established a blood screening committee through my parent needs survey. Twenty four parents volunteered to help with this project. The two co-chairpersons, Mrs. Morello and Mrs. Kastelic, have set this date up with the American Red Cross, Johnstown Chapter. The Red Cross will come to the school and conduct two assemblies for the students on blood. They will enlist the student body in helping to get donors. Seventh and eighth grade students will be asked to help on the blood drive date. The school needs to provide the helpers, location, and refreshments. The Red Cross will provide publicity help. To be completed in December.
